A useful first check may save a service visit.
We want to be helpful before we are expensive. Start with safe, no-tools checks. Stop if you see electrical danger, repeated breaker trips, refrigerant concerns, smoke, or standing water near equipment.
Open the complete troubleshooting guideCheck the thermostat
Set it to COOL, lower the setpoint below the room temperature, select AUTO for the fan, and replace thermostat batteries if the display is dim or blank.
Inspect the air filter
A loaded filter can restrict airflow and contribute to poor cooling or coil icing. Replace it with the correct size and install it in the airflow direction shown on the filter.
Open the airflow path
Make sure supply registers are open, return grilles are not blocked by furniture, and interior doors are not preventing air from returning to the system.
Check the breaker once
If an HVAC breaker is tripped, reset it one time. If it trips again, leave it off and request service. Repeated resets can hide an electrical fault.
